Conspiracy is a crime in and of itself. Though the sentence for conspiracy often corresponds with the sentence for the underlying act, you can be charged with conspiracy without taking any steps to further the unlawful goal beyond your agreement.
For some summary offences, conspiring to commit the crime may carry heavier maximum sentences than the crime itself.
