Cassandra Laperriere completed both her undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Western Ontario. She received her Honours Bachelor in Criminology, along with a Minor in English Language and Literature in 2016, followed by her J.D. in 2020. As a student, she worked at various law firms that specialized in real estate, estate law, and criminal law. She completed her articles at Carmanna, Friedberg LLP, and joined the firm as an associate lawyer following her Call to the Bar in May 2021.
During her legal studies, Cassandra volunteered extensively with Innocence Canada, Pro Bono Students Canada, and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association. She also worked in the criminal law division of the Community Legal Services Clinic, where she provided legal assistance to members of the community of low income status and university students. Throughout her studies, she sat on the executive teams of several student organizations, and was President of Western’s Chapter of LEVEL, a Canadian charitable organization that levels barriers to justice by disrupting prejudice, building empathy and advancing human rights. She also competed in various litigation competitions, including the Arnup Cup, an Ontario-wide criminal moot competition.
Cassandra is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Criminal Lawyers Association, and the Toronto Lawyers Association.
